| 2009 Schedule of Events Monday, May 11 - Mayor's Ride &Town Hall Meeting, Safety Course 10:15 a.m - Mayor’s Ride. Meet at Nampa City Hall. Join Mayor Dale and city staff for a “coffee break” ride to downtown. Helmets recommended. 7:00 p.m - Traffic 101 safe-bicycle driving presentation. NNU Campus, Wiley Learning Center (Across from Johnson Sports Center), Room 137. Free, one hour, certified instructor. Learn safe practices, Idaho law. Bring your questions. Tuesday, May 12 – Group Rides 6:00 p.m. – Group Rides. Get in shape, practice skills, and connect with new cyclists. Meet at Nampa Parks & Recreation Center, 12th avenue. Choose from a 25 mile advanced, 10 mile “skill stretcher”, or 5 mile beginner ride. Helmet required. Wednesday, May 13 - Trails Did you know Nampa has safe, beautiful, trails accessible to all ages and abilities? Meet at one of these times and locations and you will be led by an experienced trail user. Length of walk/ride will depend on group participants. Or…just hit the trail on your own and let us know about your experience. 9:00 a.m. - “Walk the Wilson”. Meet and park near 340 W. Iowa St 2:00 p.m. - “Roam the Rail Trail”. Meet at E.Greenhurst Rd & Chicago near The Islands Subdivision. 7:00 p.m. - “Walk the Wilson”. Meet at the Wilson Springs Pond near Idaho Fish & Game at 3101 S Powerline Rd. Thursday, May 14 – Service Projects & Night Ride 7:00 p.m. – Service Project. Help downtown business owners spruce up for the summer and make walking and cycling more pleasant for all. Meet at Downtown Stallion Park to sweep, plant flowers, and spruce up downtown. 8:30 p.m. - Dusk to Dark Night Ride, Meet at Brownstone Coffee, 7-10 mile ride. Front/rear lights and helmet required. Led by Tyler Welshimer. Friday, May 15 – Bike/Walk to Work 6:30 a.m.to 9 a.m- Flying M Coffee Garage, 1314 2nd St South .Start your commute by meeting here or just stop by for free coffee, water, food, information, celebration, and encouragement. 11 a.m.-1 p.m. – Nampa Police Department Plaza, 12th and 2nd St South – Meet your group here for a downtown lunch stroll or just stop by for free water, food, information, celebration, and encouragement. Saturday, May 16 – Farmer’s Market 9 a.m. Bird Walk – Wilson Springs Pond near 3101 S Powerline Rd. Bird watching walk led by Fred Hill, local birder and biologist. Bring binoculars. 9 a.m. to Noon- Family Bike/Walk Farmers’ Market. Secure bicycle valet parking, safety checks, registration, guided walking tours of historic downtown. 12:00-1:00 – Pedestrian Walkabout . Meet at the White Pine, 115 13th Ave. South. Join the “critical mass” demonstration. Educate motorists and walkers about Idaho laws regarding pedestrian safety. Led by Diana Shafer, downtown business owner. |
Nampa Bike & Walk Week Report, May 11-16, 2009 Over 1,000 miles were bicycled and 500 were walked by persons who registered. The week was kicked off with Mayor's ride on Monday morning, attended by 10 members of the Advisory, Nampa's Mayor, Tom Dale, and Councilmen Thorne and Homer and concluded with Bike & Walk to Farmer's Market.
